1. 🧠 Etched Is Scooping Up Nvidia Talent
Etched is recruiting experienced Nvidia engineers as it races to turn its specialized AI chip into a serious challenger, The Wall Street Journal reports. The startup says its team has grown to more than 400 people, with hires from Nvidia, Google’s TPU group, Broadcom, SK Hynix and other major chip companies. Etched emerged from stealth in June with working silicon, more than $1 billion in signed customer contracts, a factory in Taiwan and a validation facility in San Jose. It then announced a $300 million Series C led by Sequoia at a $10.3 billion valuation in July. The bet is that a chip built only for transformer-based AI can beat general-purpose GPUs on speed and cost, but Etched still has to prove it can manufacture and deliver at scale. (Read More)

2. 🪟 China Accelerates Its Government Windows Exit
China is accelerating plans to remove an older, government-tailored version of Microsoft Windows from state-linked organizations, Bloomberg reports. The Ministry of State Security recently told some entities to uninstall the customized Windows 10 system, moving the timeline forward by several months. The directive is another step in Beijing’s long campaign to reduce government dependence on foreign technology and move sensitive systems toward domestic alternatives. It targets a specific state-use version rather than every Windows installation in China, but the message to foreign software vendors is still blunt: replacement is moving faster. (Read More)
3. 🛡️ Greg Brockman Says the Defender’s Window Is Closing
OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman warns that AI attackers will exploit software weaknesses at machine speed, but defenders still have a narrow chance to get ahead. He points to a recent incident in which an agentic collective penetrated OpenAI research infrastructure and another company’s production systems by chaining zero-day vulnerabilities with leaked credentials. Brockman says the same technology can reverse the advantage: ChatGPT reportedly found 13 security issues on his personal site in about 15 minutes, then helped fix them in roughly an hour. 4. 💰 Trump-Linked Crypto Firm Backs a Chinese AI Marketplace
World Liberty Financial, the crypto company backed by President Donald Trump’s family, is supporting WorldClaw, a Hong Kong venture offering access to dozens of AI models, Reuters reports. Of the 90 models listed on WorldClaw, 43 were developed by Alibaba, Baidu, Z.ai and other Chinese companies that the Trump administration has flagged over national security or intellectual-property concerns. The unusual pairing puts a Trump-linked business alongside technology from companies facing tighter US scrutiny. Reuters said it could not establish the venture’s financial arrangements or how much, if anything, the Trump family earns from WorldClaw. That unanswered question is the story’s sharpest edge. 5. 🧫 Singapore Builds a Biological Data Center Prototype
NUS Medicine, DayOne and Cortical Labs have unveiled a 20-unit biological computing system at the National University of Singapore’s Life Sciences Institute. The prototype combines living neurons derived from stem cells with silicon hardware, creating what the partners call the first independently operated biologically integrated server rack. Researchers can observe neural activity in real time while testing whether “wetware” can handle AI-style workloads with less electricity and water than conventional data centers. Early uses include drug discovery, neurological-disease research and biological modeling. If validation and regulatory work succeed, the partners say a larger DayOne deployment in Singapore could scale to 1,000 units. (Read More)
