Daily TEA – Musk’s Robot Rivals, Sora’s Slump, and Cloudflare’s AI Edge
China humanoids, Sora slowdown, informational time, UpScrolled, Moltworker agents
Hello, dear TEA-mates, here’s what you need to know today.
1.🤖 Musk Says Tesla’s Toughest Robot Rivals Will Come from China
Tesla CEO Elon Musk told investors he expects the company’s biggest competition in humanoid robots to emerge from China, citing the country’s strength in both AI and large-scale manufacturing. He argued that while Tesla’s Optimus robot will “significantly outperform” any Chinese robot currently in development—especially in real-world intelligence, dexterity, and hand design—Chinese firms are rapidly mobilizing. Musk pointed to dedicated robotics players like Unitree and UBTech, as well as EV makers including Xpeng, Li Auto, and Chery, which are all pushing into humanoid robots and could eventually rival Tesla much as Chinese automakers did in EVs. Read More (CnEVPost).
🫖 TEA For Thought: Musk is not wrong. Companies in China are already aiming to become the combined xAI-and-Tesla equivalent, including Megvii and StepFun. It seems clear to them that LLMs may already be yesterday’s story, and the future belongs to multimodal, visual, audio, and world models plus robots that can complete human-level tasks using these systems. In the AI era, competition will ultimately shift to hardware.
2.🎬 OpenAI’s Sora App Stumbles After Viral Debut
OpenAI’s Sora video-generation app, which quickly topped the App Store after launch, is now losing steam as both downloads and consumer spending decline. Appfigures data shows Sora’s installs fell 32% month-over-month in December and another 45% in January 2026 to 1.2 million, while in-app spending dropped 32% over the same period. The app, which lets users generate TikTok-style AI videos and remix clips using their own or friends’ likenesses, appears to face headwinds from users’ reluctance to share personal images, limits on using commercial IP, and rising competition from video and AI features in products like Google’s Gemini and Meta AI. OpenAI has not detailed any new content deals or features that might reverse the slowdown. Read More (TechCrunch).
🫖 TEA For Thought: Many users have no interest in letting others, even friends, use their likeness to make AI videos. Now that building apps is easier, viral hits like Sora will keep coming—but the real question is how to retain users and build loyalty when cheaper, better alternatives are always a swipe away, just like on dating apps.
3.⏳ Physicists Propose Time Emerges from Information, Not the Universe’s Bedrock
A new physics proposal argues that time may not be a fundamental ingredient of reality but instead emerges from how the universe stores and processes information. In this framework, spacetime is modeled as made of discrete, memory-bearing elements that retain records of past interactions, so the universe effectively “remembers” what has happened. Temporal order and the arrow of time arise because later states contain more informational records than earlier ones, removing the need to assume a special, ultra-low-entropy beginning. The same informational approach is suggested as a possible way to account for phenomena attributed to dark matter and dark energy, by treating accumulated information as an extra gravitational contribution affecting galactic dynamics. Read More (The Conversation).
🫖 TEA For Thought: If time is information, it resonates with the biblical idea that “in the beginning was the Word,” where the Word—as information—creates both the beginning and the end. I’m completely fascinated by how this scientific view echoes that framing.
4.📱 Pro-Palestinian Users Flock to UpScrolled Amid TikTok Censorship Fears
With TikTok’s U.S. operations shifting to new American ownership, some users worried about heightened censorship of pro-Palestinian content are moving to alternative platform UpScrolled. The Palestinian-founded app brands itself as a censorship-free space that rejects “shadowbans” and has quickly climbed Apple’s App Store rankings in the U.S., U.K., and Australia. Users and creators say they are drawn by UpScrolled’s explicit alignment with free-speech advocacy around Palestine and by concerns that TikTok’s algorithmic and policy changes could suppress their content. UpScrolled’s team is now racing to scale infrastructure and moderation while partnering with pro-Palestinian groups to turn the early spike in downloads into a lasting community. Read More (Mashable).
🫖 TEA For Thought: This shows there is still room for new social platforms, but I’m curious whether UpScrolled’s growth is a temporary hype spike or something that can sustain strong retention—especially when it is, in the end, another centralized platform controlled by a few.
5.🧩 Cloudflare’s Moltworker Turns Moltbot into a Cloud-Hosted Personal AI Agent
Cloudflare has introduced Moltworker, a middleware Worker and set of scripts that lets people run Moltbot—an open-source, self-hosted personal AI assistant—on Cloudflare’s Sandbox SDK and Developer Platform instead of buying dedicated hardware like Mac minis. Moltbot can integrate with chat apps, AI models, and popular tools to help manage finances, social media, and daily tasks, and Moltworker routes its traffic through Cloudflare Workers while securely connecting to sandboxed containers where the agent runs. The setup draws on Cloudflare’s growing Node.js compatibility, its AI Gateway for routing to multiple model providers with unified billing and analytics, Sandboxes and Containers for running untrusted code, Browser Rendering for headless browser automation, and R2 storage for persistent session memory and assets. Cloudflare has open-sourced Moltworker on GitHub as a proof of concept, pitching its developer platform as a full toolkit for building and operating always-on AI agents at the edge without managing servers or exposing raw secrets. Read More (Cloudflare Blog).
🫖 TEA For Thought: Cloudflare is very smart to offer this now, effectively shifting “local” to your own local cloud. The timing feels perfect as demand for private, controllable AI agent infrastructure surges.
Prompt Tip of the Day: Wait and Work with Me
"I would benefit most from an explanation style in which you frequently pause to confirm, via asking me test questions, that I've understood your explanations so far. Particularly helpful are test questions related to simple, explicit examples. When you pause and ask me a test question, do not continue the explanation until I have answered the questions to your satisfaction. I.e. do not keep generating the explanation, actually wait for me to respond first. Thanks!”TEAHEE Moment
