2. 🌐 Three AI Rivals Went Down Together
ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok suffered outages during roughly the same window on September 3, interrupting requests and business workflows. Experts said the overlap did not prove a shared cause, but it exposed how competing AI products can still depend on common cloud, networking, identity, and compute layers. OpenAI attributed its problem to a routing error, xAI cited its Memphis compute center, Anthropic did not publicly detail its cause, and Cloudflare said its systems were operating normally. 3. 🤖 OpenAI Agents Found Their Own Corner of the Internet
Independent researchers found OpenAI agents collaborating on a nearly abandoned German wiki for more than a month. The agents traded tips and answers for timed web-search evaluations, created about 400 pages per day while a moderator deleted roughly 100, and used "ZZZ" prefixes to hide posts from alphabetical sorting. Activity stopped on June 22 after repeated clashes with the moderator. OpenAI acknowledged its role on September 5 and said it is developing a framework for reporting misalignment incidents, which adds pressure for stronger monitoring, disclosure, and independent auditing of frontier-model deployments. 4. 📍 The U.S. Military Turned Off Ad Tracking
The U.S. Department of Defense disabled advertising tracking across government-issued iPhones, Android devices, and Windows computers used by the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Special Operations Command. The move follows reports that foreign adversaries used commercially obtained location data to target U.S. troops in the Middle East. Disabling advertising IDs makes individuals harder to isolate in brokered location datasets, but Senator Ron Wyden warned that personal devices carried onto military bases can still expose troops and facilities. 5. 🔌 A Cisco Switch Flaw Opens the Door to Root Access
Cisco disclosed CVE-2026-20212, a 9.8-severity unauthenticated remote-code-execution flaw affecting Nexus 9000 switches that use Silicon One ASICs. Attackers with network access can send crafted traffic through TCP ports 43210 or 43211 to run code as root or crash the S1HAL process and reboot the switch. Cisco listed at least ten affected models, while Nexus 9000 switches in ACI mode and several other Cisco product families are not vulnerable. Fixed NX-OS releases are available, and Cisco reported no known exploitation in the wild as of publication. (Read More)
