1. 🤖 Software Starts Moving at the Speed of Compute
Marc Andreessen says technology's share of the market capitalization among the world's ten largest businesses rose from 31.5% to 94.4% over 15 years, even though only one in 300 people wrote software. In the past year, he says, Devin went from writing 13% of Cognition's production code to more than 90%. The post also credits Devin with cutting a Mercedes-Benz COBOL migration from eight months to eight days, increasing Rivian's test-generation velocity tenfold, and automatically remediating 70% of security vulnerabilities at Itaú. Andreessen argues that coding agents will increase demand for software by making more projects economically viable. (Read More)

2. 🕵️ One Hundred AI Agents Hacked Five Accounts
Security researcher Shrivu Shankar tasked about 100 self-hosted AI agents with trying to break into his own online accounts during a five-hour experiment. Using modified open-source models derived from GLM-5.3, GLM-5.3 Flash, and DeepSeek V4 Flash, the agents compromised three old accounts through software flaws and two through password brute forcing, while also making 16 social-engineering attempts. They found no third-party zero-days and did not reach tier-zero accounts such as Gmail, 1Password, or banking. Shankar estimated the test cost $210, or about $40 per compromised account, and warned that cheap agent swarms can make persistent attacks available to less-skilled operators. (Read More)

3. 🇨🇳 China Targets More Than Six Times Its 2025 AI Compute
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology published a 2026 to 2030 plan targeting 9,800 eflops of intelligent computing capacity by 2030, up from 1,590 eflops in 2025. It pairs that goal with 3.8 trillion yuan in information-infrastructure investment and 1,700 exabytes of advanced storage, up from 540 exabytes. The plan also calls for computing clusters with 10,000 and 100,000 or more accelerator cards, 500,000 new 5G-Advanced base stations, and one million 50G-PON optical access ports. Separate June 2026 figures put current intelligent compute at 2,185 eflops, up 177% from a year earlier. (Read More)

4. 🏦 Block Wants a Bank That Cannot Take Deposits
Block applied to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to establish Builders Bank & Trust as an uninsured national trust bank. If approved, the federally supervised bank would provide custody and related fiduciary services for assets including bitcoin and stablecoins. It would not take deposits or make loans. Block says the charter would create a consistent national framework for custody activities as the company scales. Lee Woolley, Block's digital asset strategy lead and a former banking executive, would serve as president and chief executive. The bank cannot begin operations unless the OCC approves the application. (Read More)

5. 🪱 AI Helped Build a Zero-Click WeChat Worm
Researchers at Calif demonstrated WeWorm, a zero-click worm that could take over a WeChat account through an incoming call on iOS or Android, even if the target did not answer. The caller had to be on the victim's friend list, but a compromised account could then call contacts and spread. Calif says the exploit could read and send messages, make calls, and act as the victim. Working with AI, the team found the memory-corruption bug and built its first remote-code-execution exploit in about two days, then spent one more week building the worm. Calif reported the flaw in July, and says Tencent mitigated the exploit for all users by August 28. (Read More)
